Job Title
Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) & Geographic Information System (GIS) Intern (summer co-op)

Work Responsibilities
My work responsibilities included numerous tasks related to the maintenance and up-keep of the Duke campus CAD drawings and GIS (a computer system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data documentation). I converted georeferenced floor plans from AutoCAD to GIS. Georeferencing applies to relating objects or structures to different geographical locations. I also worked to build AutoCAD floor plans for use in GIS. My co-workers and I discussed how to add storm water inlet IDs, utility photos, water meter information and new fire lane features into GIS. I enjoyed working hard and learning, and part of what I learned helped me to complete new assignments for the Duke University Campus on ArcMap.

How my career relates to my degree from RIT/NTID
My CAD major at NTID required that I learn to use Revit architecture, AutoCAD, and ArcMap software programs. Duke University also used those software programs. It was interesting to work with georeferencing at Duke building AutoCAD floor plans for use in GIS. I really enjoyed working there for my summer co-op. My major is a perfect match for what I was assigned to do at Duke. I loved my job. I learned things in CAD classes that will help me get jobs doing something I like. I have the skills to be able to work on CAD Technical for architecture and GIS and use the specific softwares: AutoCad, Revit Architecture and ArcMap that are necessary to succeed in jobs in my field.

Advice
Work hard, be interested in your major, focus on your work tasks and be friendly and nice.
