Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP), Philadelphia, Pa.

Job title and work responsibilities
I am a logistics management specialist, and I'm responsible for providing logistics support for the U.S. Navy fleets. NAVICP's purpose is to monitor inventory and provide fleets with parts that they need in order to keep their aircraft operational. We are sort of a middleman between the depots (repair sites) and the squadrons (fleets). I manage parts repair and refurbishing for naval aircraft. I decide, based on demand, how many parts should be repaired, which depot they should be repaired at, where parts should be shipped to and where to stock them. Usually, we have parts and other items ready and waiting, but if we have a need, and the vendor does not have assets available, I research an alternative plan. Often there are a variety of steps involved that I have to take to get a government contract awarded to the vendor. There is always a lot going on, but I love this job because it is supporting the Marines that are out there in action.

How my career relates to my degree from RIT/NTID
My job is to make decisions about the disposition of naval aircraft parts—from procurement, to making new buys, to filling requisitions and expediting delivery. The decision making processes in this role relates directly to my business management training at RIT.
