Federal PLUS Loans Origination Fee Calculator

Federal Direct PLUS Loans are loans that graduate students and parents of dependent undergraduate students can use to help pay for college. PLUS loans can help pay for education expenses not covered by other financial aid.

Federal Direct PLUS loans have an origination fee of 4.228%*

The origination fee is subtracted by the Department of Education from the borrowed amount prior to disbursement. If you wish to cover the origination fee in your loan amount, enter the amount you plan to borrow for the full year and this calculator will calculate the total loan amount needed, including the origination fee.

*The Federal Direct PLUS Loan program charges an origination fee of 4.228% for loans disbursed after October 1, 2020, and before October 1, 2023.

Origination Fee Calculator

This calculator will assist you in determining the amount of the origination fee and how much to request if you would like the origination fee included in the loan. RIT encourages parent and graduate PLUS loan borrowers to request the full annual amount they intend to borrow, rather than borrowing by semester. The PLUS loan application can be completed at studentaid.gov. Please use the PLUS Loan borrower’s FSA ID to login and apply.

This calculation is based on two equal disbursements for fall and spring semesters.
