Graduate Admission Deadlines and Requirements

Each graduate degree differs in its admit terms, deadlines, where it is offered, application requirements, and more.

This search and filter tool will help you compare programs by area of study while getting a glimpse of the main requirements for your program.

Definitions and Additional Information

Degree programs have differing admit terms. View the table to find the month your study would start depending on the admit term you apply to.

If applying for:

  • Fall; you would start in August
  • Spring; you would start in January
  • Summer; you would start in May

When to apply to your degree depends on your start term and the degree's application deadline.

  • Priority deadlines - Applications that are complete and received by the priority deadline listed for that degree are given priority consideration for admission and financial aid (if applicable). Applications received after the priority deadline will be considered on a space-available basis.
  • Rolling - There is no specific deadline for applications; applications will be accepted and reviewed throughout the year.

We encourage you to submit your application as early as possible. If a deadline has passed, do not let that deter you. We still welcome your application.

We accept Duolingo (DET), IELTS Academic/IELTS Academic Online, LanaguageCert Academic (LC), PTE Academic, and TOEFL iBT® and TOEFL iBT® Home Edition scores. We do not accept TOEFL MyBest Score or IELTS One Skill Retake as proof of English proficiency. View the English Language Test Scores accordion within the Application Materials section of the application instructions for information about waiver eligibility and the RIT English Exam option.

TOEFL Score Updates: As of January 21, 2026, the TOEFL iBT® test transitioned to a new 1–6 band scoring scale. Because TOEFL scores are valid for two years, we are listing both the old (0–120) and new (1–6) scales in the table below to accommodate applicants who took the test before or after this change. We accept official scores from either version of the test, provided they are within the two-year validity period.

Minimum Overall English Scores and Sub-Scores

  1. The numbers listed in the English Language Scores column are the overall minimum scores required for that program.
  2. In addition to the scores listed, each program requires balanced sub-scores when determining an applicant’s need for additional English language courses. For example, a minimum overall score of 88, will require sub-scores of 22 for Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening.

Deaf and hard-of-hearing students: test takers with significant hearing loss do not need to take the listening and speaking sections for the TOEFL and IELTS. Scores from these sections will not be considered in the review of application materials because the listening/speaking components of the TOEFL and IELTS sections are not relevant for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
