RIT’s graduate programs ranked among the best by ‘U.S. News & World Report’
Seventeen graduate degree programs at Rochester Institute of Technology and the graduate schools in business and engineering are among the best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings.
This year, RIT tied 76th overall for the best graduate engineering school in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering. RIT also tied 93rd overall for best business MBA in the Saunders College of Business. Both these school rankings were based on statistical indicators that measure the quality of faculty, research, and students.
Individual engineering specialties tied in the national rankings:
- 57th in electrical engineering;
- 58th in industrial and systems engineering;
- 61st in computer engineering;
- 70th in mechanical engineering;
- 75th in biomedical engineering;
- 91st in chemical engineering.
Several business specialties within RIT’s Saunders College of Business tied in the rankings:
- 56th in supply chain/logistics;
- 68th in entrepreneurship;
- 69th in executive MBA;
- 71st in management;
- 80th in business analytics;
- 117th in accounting;
- 113th in finance.
U.S. News & World Report annually ranks graduate programs in six fields—business, education, engineering, law, medicine, and nursing to help prospective students make informed decisions. These data-driven rankings are based on enrollment numbers, job placement rates, faculty statistics, and other indicators.
U.S. News also periodically ranks graduate programs in 12 other disciplines based on academic reputation. This year, RIT tied:
- 49th in fine arts in the College of Art and Design;
- 76th in computer science in the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences;
- 72nd in applied statistics in the College of Science;
- 86th in physics in the College of Science;
- 104th in biological sciences (bioinformatics) in the College of Science;
- 119th in physician assistant in the College of Health Sciences and Technology.
Peer assessment data regarding the academic quality of programs came from deans, program directors, and senior faculty. U.S. News also surveyed professionals who hire or work with new graduates with degrees from the six disciplines ranked annually.
