Charles Arnold Lecture: Jill Heinerth
Jill Heinerth, an underwater cave explorer, best-selling author, photographer, speaker, and filmmaker, is delivering a talk as part of the Charles Arnold Lecture Series, sponsored by the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences.
The lecture, titled "The Fine Art and Science of Cave Diving," is set for 6 pm. Wednesday, Sept. 14, in Wegmans Theater (MAGIC Spell Studios). There is also a Zoom webinar option to attend — register.
A sport once tagged as the domain of adrenaline junkies, cave divers have become an important asset to scientists investigating global climate change, archaeology, water issues and unusual biology. In a unique intersection between art and science, Jill Heinerth has undertaken expeditions to faraway caves from Egypt to Antarctica and Bermuda to the Bahamas. She'll offer a fast-paced multimedia show about tiny venomous creatures and ancient lofty stalagmites that tell the story of earth before man.
Heinerth has made TV series, consulted on movies, and written several books. She is the first Explorer in Residence for the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, recipient of Canada’s prestigious Polar Medal, and is a Fellow of the International Scuba Divers Hall of Fame.
