Abstract
:
A presentation will be given on the paper "On orthogonal matrices with zero diagonal" by R. Bailey and R. Craigen. In this paper the authors consider real orthogonal n×n matrices whose diagonal entries are zero and off-diagonal entries nonzero. They use these results to determine the minimum number of distinct eigenvalues of matrices associated with some families of graphs, and consider the related notion of orthogonal matrices with a partially-zero diagonal.

Speaker Bio:
Darren Narayan is Professor of Mathematics and Director of Undergraduate Research at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and is a Visiting Research Professor at the Rochester Center for Brain Imaging at the University of Rochester. Darren received his BS in Mathematics at SUNY Binghamton and MS and PhD degrees from Lehigh University. His primary research is in the area of graph theory and has been recently applying mathematical methods to analyze data from functional MRI scans.
