FRIDA: Screening and Q&A

Join us for a screening of the critically acclaimed documentary film FRIDA, which details the life of one of Mexico's great artists, Frida Kahlo.
The screening is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, in Wegmans Theater (MAGIC Spell Studios)
Enjoy a social hour reception (5:30 p.m.) before the screening, which will be followed by a Q-and-A with director Carla Gutiérrez and assistant editor Paula Ospina '17 about the film, their experiences, and the making of the documentary.
The event is sponsored by the College of Art and Design's School of Film and Animation and School of Photographic Arts and Sciences, the School of Individualized Study, and the College of Liberal Arts' William A. Kern Endowment.
About Carla Gutiérrez
Carla Gutiérrez is an Emmy and Eddie nominated documentary filmmaker. Her directorial debut FRIDA premiered at Sundance 2024 where it won the prestigious Jonathan Oppenheim Award for Best Editing. Carla’s work as an editor includes the Oscar-nominated films RBG and LA CORONA. Her work has received awards at Sundance, Tribeca, Berlinale, Outfest, the Critic’s Choice Awards, the National Board of Review Awards and the DuPont Columbia Awards.
About Paula Ospina
Paula Ospina '17 is a graduate of RIT’s photojournalism program. She served as an assistant editor and post-production coordinator for FRIDA. She was an assistant editor on the film The Sharp Edge of Peace. Prior to working as a freelance editor, videographer, and photographer, Ospina was a staff photographer for The Jackson Sun, and also served in the Peace Corps in Kolda, Senegal.
