Part 1: Understanding Neurodiversity in Higher Education

Join us for the first session in a two-part series focused on supporting neurodivergent students in higher education. These sessions, led by Makini Beck and Kendra Evans, provide both foundational understanding and practical strategies to help you create more inclusive and accessible learning environments.

Understanding Neurodiversity in Higher Education will introduce key concepts of neurodiversity and explore the strengths and challenges neurodivergent students may experience in academic settings. Faculty and staff will gain insights into common neurodivergent profiles, barriers to learning, and strategies for fostering a sense of belonging. Participants will leave with a stronger foundation for creating inclusive classrooms that recognize and celebrate diverse ways of thinking and learning.

The second session, Teaching Strategies for Supporting Neurodivergent Students, held on Tuesday, October 28, will focus on practical approaches faculty can use to support neurodivergent learners.

We encourage you to attend both sessions, though each stands on its own. Together, they provide a comprehensive look at ways we can better understand, support, and empower neurodivergent students in our classrooms.

Light refreshments will be provided.
This session is for RIT faculty, including adjuncts and teaching assistants. Participants should request access services if needed.
