Bonalyn Nelsen Selected as Fulbright Senior Specialist

The Fulbright Scholar Program and the Council of International Exchange of Scholars recently named Bonalyn Nelsen of Rochester Institute of Technology a Fulbright senior specialist. One of the newest programs developed by the Fulbright organization, this program differs from the traditional Fulbright program as specialists are scholars and professionals placed in short-term—two to six-week assignments versus 10-month faculty sabbaticals—for high-level development, curriculum or training projects with peers at international universities.

“Working as a Fulbright specialist is an exciting opportunity. The program is about information-sharing and helping other educators expand their knowledge base,” says Nelsen, an associate professor in the School of International Hospitality and Service Innovation in RIT’s College of Applied Science and Technology.

Prior to working at RIT, Nelsen provided professional training programs at Citicorp and the U.S. Department of Education. She is currently working on a book about tourism crisis management.
