Lloyd Kaplan ’79, chief operating officer of IHS iSuppli and IHS Screen Digest, will lead the discussion about global technology opportunities at the next Kate Gleason College of Engineering Dean’s Alumni Speaker Series event. It takes place at 1 p.m. Jan. 19 in the Xerox Auditorium at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Kaplan’s presentation, “Working and Building a Career in a Global Technology Environment,” will include information about opportunities for engineers in global organizations; what technologies are developed, manufactured and consumed in various regions of the world; and the attributes and skills students must have to be successful in the global environment.

The event is free and open to students, faculty, staff and alumni.

In 2000, Kaplan was a founding member of iSuppli, a technology value-chain research and advisory service organization, building the global sales, marketing and business development teams. In 2005 he became chief operating officer, integrating iSuppli’s acquisitions in the automotive and alternative energy segments. In 2010, the company was acquired by IHS, an international organization that provides technical information and advisory services in the areas of energy, economics, geopolitical risk, sustainability and supply chain management. Prior to joining iSuppli, Lloyd was an executive vice president at Avnet, a global electronics distributor, responsible for marketing and managing the global supplier relationships. His career also includes senior technical sales and marketing positions at Phillips Electronics and Hughes Aircraft, and as an investment banker with Thomas James and Associates.
