Eddie Glaude Jr. keynote speaker for Expressions of King’s Legacy

The 44th annual free, public event will be held Thursday, Jan. 29

RIT will welcome Eddie Glaude Jr. as the keynote speaker for the 44th annual Expressions of King’s Legacy program at noon on Thursday, Jan. 29, in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required for planning purposes.

Glaude is the New York Times bestselling author of Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own, and is the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor and the former chair of the Department of African American Studies at Princeton University. As a scholar and political commentator, he is a frequent columnist for Time magazine and a MS NOW contributor on cable news programs.

“We are proud to continue the long-standing tradition of bringing powerful voices to our campus to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King,” said Keith Jenkins, vice president and associate provost for Access, Engagement, and Success. “We look forward to gathering with our students, faculty, and staff across campus and with the wider community for this special program.”

The event will also feature a performance by Ryan Johnson and Glen Cummings, who will entertain with elements of funk, soul, and R&B. WXXI is the media sponsor.

Expressions of King’s Legacy is dedicated to celebrating the life and impact of Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr. It began in 1982 and has evolved into one of the premiere events offered on campus to the greater community. The program is organized by the Division of Access, Engagement, and Success.

The event is free and open to the public, but attendees are asked to register so they can receive up-to-date information. Registration is available at the Expressions of King’s Legacy website.
