Electronics recycling event on June 11 to support RIT Student Gift Challenge
Members of the community can dispose of unwanted equipment at no cost
Recycling of computers and other electronics is now free for all consumers.
Old electronics can bring new vitality to an important campus fundraising initiative. Maven Technologies of Rochester has announced a computer and electronics recycling event to benefit the RIT Student Gift Challenge.
From 8 a.m. to noon June 11, members of the campus community and the general public can dispose of old and unwanted equipment at no cost. Materials may be brought to G and H lots in the northwest quadrant of campus. Maven Technologies staff will be on hand to unload vehicles and then transport all collected hardware to the company’s secure processing facility.
Proceeds generated from the recycled materials will help match dollars received through RIT student contributions. During 2011, more than 1,800 students have made a gift to the Student Gift Challenge in support of a range of university programs.
Maven Technologies has been holding recycling events across New York state for several years. “The jump in recycling that we have seen this year is largely due to the Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Law that became effective as of April 1,” explains Todd Wheaton, vice president of Maven Technologies. “The law has made computer and electronics recycling free for consumers and they are responding enthusiastically.”
A list of acceptable and unacceptable material for recycling is available on the Maven Technologies website.
