Computer engineering alumnus discusses entrepreneurship, innovative technologies and careers

Is venture capital overrated?
RIT computer engineering alumnus John Martellaro will address that question at the upcoming Kate Gleason College of Engineering Dean’s Alumni Speaker Series program. It takes place at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in the Xerox Auditorium in James E. Gleason Hall. The event is free and open to RIT students, faculty and staff.
Martellaro co-founded STEMBoard, a career placement service focused on STEM recruiting. He serves as the organization’s chief operating officer and leads its technology development. Prior to establishing this business, he worked with the U.S. Department of Defense and other government agencies. At 19, he worked for the Laboratory of Telecommunications Sciences and was involved in developing high performance computing and networking applications. In 2010, he co-founded APX Labs, designers of augmented reality software and mobile solutions. He served as its business developer and chief technology officer.
For his extensive work with and support of the U.S military and its personnel serving and returning from active duty to the corporate sector, Martellaro received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award from the Department of Defense for his compassion and support of the guard and their families.
