Four RIT presidents gather April 10 to reflect on university’s transformation

Four RIT leaders will take the stage on April 10 at the RIT Performing Arts Center to talk about how their ideas helped shape the university. Clockwise from top left: RIT President Bill Sanders, and Presidents Emeriti David Munson, Albert Simone, and Bill Destler.

From building transformative research to enhancing the student experience and blending technology, the arts, and design, RIT’s leaders have impacted the university’s trajectory and transformed it throughout the decades.

In celebration of another milestone marked by the grand opening of the RIT Performing Arts Center, three past university presidents—Albert Simone (1992-2007), Bill Destler (2007-2017), and David Munson (2017-2025)—and current President Bill Sanders will gather at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 10, for Presidential Perspectives on RIT’s Transformation: A conversation with four RIT presidents.

The panel discussion offers the opportunity for the university’s leaders, past and present, to reflect on their vision, dedication, and leadership, ideas that helped shape the university, and forecasts of where RIT will be among universities in the future.

RIT community members can attend in person at the Performing Arts Center or watch the livestream. American Sign Language interpretation will be available.

The question-and-answer format will be moderated for the fourth time by former Rochester broadcast journalist Don Alhart, who has led similar conversations dating back to 1992 featuring past RIT presidents Mark Ellingson, Paul Miller, and Richard Rose. RIT Trustee Susan Holliday will emcee the event.
