Graduate student honored in monthly international film competition

Anannya Sengupta, a second-year student in RIT’s film and animation MFA program, has been honored in a monthly competition that recognizes the work of filmmakers worldwide.

His film, “Ping Pong’d,” won Best Animation Short in the London Independent Film Awards’ December contest.

“My vision for this film is to show the competition between two characteristics and how it affects today's world,” Sengupta’s director’s statement reads. “One character is a constant hard worker, while the other is an overconfident champion. Putting these two on the battleground shows which one is the important one and how we should always approach life.”

Sengupta was given a digital certificate to commemorate his accomplishment. He made the animation during one of his classes.

Prior to enrolling in the School of Film and Animation's graduate program, Sengupta earned a bachelor of science degree at RIT in new media interactive development, a program offered in the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences.
