Local Philosophy Scholar Selected as Editor for National Book Series

RIT’s Evan Selinger to serve on editorial board for ‘Philosophy of Engineering and Technology’

Pittsford resident Evan Selinger, associate professor of philosophy at Rochester Institute of Technology, has been named an editor for the international book series Philosophy of Engineering and Technology.

Produced by Springer Press, the series seeks to advance understanding of central themes in the field through the publication of monographs and anthologies from leading scholars in the areas of technological innovation, sustainability and the ethics of engineering and design. Selinger will assist in the recruitment of authors, development of new titles, and review of manuscripts. The first book in the series, Philosophy and Engineering: An Emerging Agenda, will be released Oct. 1.

A leading scholar in the philosophy of technology and sustainability ethics, Selinger is the author/editor of seven books and also developed one of the first sustainability ethics graduate classes in the nation through RIT’s doctoral program in sustainability. He is currently serving as a visiting scholar in the Department of Science and Technology Studies at Cornell University for the 2009–2010 academic year.
