Team Oreo and Team 22 collided in a shootout during the Nerf Gun Tournament hosted by the RIT Paintball Team at the Gordon Field House on March 8.

Jay Palmer blew the whistle on software giant Infosys, which resulted in a $34 million lawsuit settlement paid by the company, the largest-ever fine for corporate immigration violations. Palmer visited RIT March 10 as part of a public policy lecture series and explained what it was like to be an individual going up against a Fortune 1000 firm.

The RIT women’s hockey team claimed its first College Hockey America championship Saturday night with a 2-1 victory in double overtime versus Mercyhurst University. The Tigers won the title in just their second season as a Division I program. RIT is ineligible for the NCAA Tournament due to being in a two-year NCAA transitional period after moving up from Division III. “The girls played extremely hard and left it all on the ice to earn this championship,” said RIT head coach Scott McDonald, who has now led his team to three conference championships over the last four seasons. The 10th annual Tora-Con convention gathered fans of anime, manga, Japanese culture, sci-fi and fantasy for a weekend of panels, performances, concerts, dances, contests and meet-ups on March 8-9. Tora-Con started as a fundraiser for the RIT Anime Club and was mainly focused around the Cosplay Contest, in which participants get creative and dress up as their favorite characters.

Monroe Community College President Anne Kress spoke with members of RIT’s ADVANCE team to talk about how to effectively support and lead organizational change. She met with female STEM faculty from across campus. The March 6 event was hosted by RIT’s Women in Science group.

RIT’s 2014 United Way campaign kicked off March 6 with Tiger Olympics, featuring games, celebrity ice cream scoopers and a prize auction. Pledges can be made online at rit.edu/unitedway.

RIT lecturer Joe Pietruch hopes to bring gamers together with his new video game, Chain Gang Chase. The game challenges two players to share a single controller, letting up to eight people play simultaneously.

Keith Delk, a Student Government senator, represents cross-registered deaf and hard-of-hearing students supported through RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf. There are 568 such students, and it’s a diverse group, with a number of communication preferences respected on campus.
