Time Warner Cable has joined RIT’s effort to bring more K-12 students to campus for the Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival on May 1. Time Warner and RIT see the event as a way to expose young people to innovation, creativity and the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) disciplines.

RIT students, faculty and staff showed their school spirit April 6 during the official send-off and pep rally for the RIT men’s hockey team. The free event, sponsored by the Center for Campus Life, was an opportunity to show Tiger pride as the men’s team prepare to face-off against University Of Wisconsin at the NCAA Division I Frozen Four championships in Detroit April 8. RIT students were treated to a Caribbean dinner and entertainment at Gracie’s on March 24. Dining Services prepared grilled shrimp, mahi-mahi, rice with black-eyed peas, sweet potato fries, fried yucca, salsas, jambalaya, curried bananas and a variety of desserts.

Hiroshi Ishii, the Muriel R. Cooper Professor at the MIT Media Lab and a pioneer in human computer interaction, discussed his vision of our digital future and how it could impact daily life March 29. The presentation, “The Art of Tangible Bits,” was part of the Caroline Werner Gannett Project’s Visionaries in Motion Series. Ishii was a leader in the development of the Tangible User Interface, where humans interact directly with digital information in the physical environment. His current work focuses on advancing these interfaces to create greater interaction between humans, the machines they use and the digital environments they create.
