RITâs School of Mathematical Sciences hosted the Monroe County Math League All-Star Competition March 4 for the seventh consecutive year. Approximately 650 high-school students from more than 35 school districts participated. Winners advanced to higher levels throughout the day and faced each other in the closing competition. The top competitors will attend the state level competition. Here, Matt Hill, a sophomore, tied with senior James Dobler in the final Buzz contest. -

Local high school students attended a Medical Sciences Career Day March 3 at RITâs Center for Biosciences Education and Technology to explore career options in the fields of medical ultrasound, physician assistant, biotechnology and exercise science and sports medicine. The event was sponsored by the center and the College of Science. Here, some students from Greece Olympia High School try out ultrasound imaging. -

Teams of college students from RIT, Northeastern University, Syracuse University, Norwich University, Polytechnic University and Champlain College competed against each other in a three-day cyberdefense competition starting Feb. 29. Each team simulated an IT department at a corporation and secured computer networks. Throughout the competition, a team of industry experts attempted to infiltrate each teamâs computer networks. RITâs winning team will move on to national competition in April in San Antonio. -

Owners and employees from dozens of wineries across the Finger Lakes take part in a discussion on improving tasting room operations. The session was part of a two-day training program in Canandaigua created by RIT and the Wine & Culinary Center. The program was created through a $100,000 grant from the New York Wine & Grape Foundation. Similar sessions will be taking place in Long Island and the Hudson Valley. -

Ryan Tryt, a senior catcher on the baseball team, was RITâs first representative on ESPN The Magazineâs Academic All-American Team. Seniors from the Kate Gleason College of Engineering presented their completed design projects to RIT faculty, staff and students on Feb.22. A 10-student team created a smoking simulation device that demonstrates what happens when a cigarette is smoked. -

Students from the Kate Gleason College of Engineering present their completed design projects to RIT faculty, staff and students. The projects were created as part of the collegeâs multidisciplinary senior design program. Jackie Sergi and Jim Cezo explain their teamâs machine for testing a magnetically levitated axial flow from a Left Ventricular Assist Device. They named it âCARNAâ after the Roman goddess of the heart. -

The computer science department in the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences raised more than $700 and collected books for the library at Fyle Elementary School. Members of the computer science departmentâs SOAR Committee, which stands for Student Scholarship, Outreach, Retention and Recruitment, presented the check and books to the school librarian on Feb. 15. -

For Valentineâs Day, Grace Watson Dining Hall offered a special menu, candlelight dining and strolling musicians. To top it all off, there was an array of decadent desserts, including red velvet cake, kiss cupcakes and tiramisu.
