    Love Day, sponsored by The Center for Campus Life, was filled with activities for students from Rochester schools. Antoine Brown, 11, from School #2, joined RIT students from Delta Phi Epsilon and the Public Relations Student Society of America—RIT Chapter to create press releases. After being photographed in an outrageous monster costume, Antoine wrote his own copy about his experience. “This is the day I had so much fun” was the beginning sentence.

    RIT’s Bevier Gallery hosts the Rochester-Finger Lakes Regional Exhibition Feb.1-27. The invitational exhibit features work from students in middle and high school art programs in this area of New York. Bevier Gallery, located in the James E. Booth Building, is handicapped-accessible. Regular gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday; 7 p.m., Monday to Thursday; 1 to 4:30 p.m., Saturday; and 2 to 4:30 p.m., Sunday.     Up ’Till Dawn organizers have been trying to increase awareness about their campaign to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Feb. 5, organizers walked around in a giant box in an effort to gain attention on campus.

    Public policy students hosted a mock debate Jan. 31, featuring representatives of the 2008 presidential candidates. John Pellito, a University of Rochester student, participated on behalf of Sen. Barak Obama’s campaign and Brighton Supervisor Sandra Frankel represented Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Members of the RIT Debate Team took the roles of the major Republican candidates.

    First-year students taking a 3-D design course are designing and building nest houses for the recovery, rehabilitation and reintroduction of squirrels into the wild. Students will be building the houses this week. All of the nest houses will be donated to animal rehabilitators in New York state.

    A member of the Nazareth Academy FIRST Robotics team works on a part for their robot which will compete at the Finger Lakes FIRST Regional Competition, held March 6-8 at RIT. More than 30 teams from the Rochester area will compete at the event.

    The Dyer Arts Center at RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf hosts the Edith Lunt Small Retrospective through Feb. 29. Small graduated with a degree in applied art from RIT in 1952. The exhibit features paintings, wood carvings, furniture and even a painted horse.

    President Bill Destler gets a dye job during halftime of the RIT men’s basketball game on Jan. 19. He had agreed to dye his hair orange if both women’s and men’s basketball games that day had full attendance. The men’s game was full but the women’s didn’t quite make it. Compromising, Destler had three-quarters of his hair colored by Vice President for Student Affairs Mary-Beth Cooper. The challenge was to encourage more support at RIT basketball games.
