Incoming Rochester Institute of Technology President Bill Destler is greeted by a welcome banner, balloons, RIT mascot RITchie the Tiger and orange and brown clad students, faculty and staff. Destler became RIT’s ninth president effective July 1.

RIT students and alumni were recently honored by Rochester Area Administrators of Volunteer Services for working with students at the School of Business, Finance and Entrepreneurship at Edison. The yearlong mentoring initiative was spearheaded by the E. Philip Saunders College of Business. Representing the RIT team at an awards ceremony featuring remarks by longtime community volunteer Carol Ritter-Wright (center) were, from left, Brett Daly (’03 marketing, ’05 MBA) of BCC Software, fourth-year management information systems major Daniel Orth, fourth-year information technology major Sean Hayes, and Nicolas Germain (’05 statistics, ’07 MBA).

Breanna Dobbe, a fourth-year advertising photography student, is about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. Dobbe is spending her summer biking across the country—stopping to do community service work along the way—with the organization Bike and Build. Dobbe’s group leaves Jacksonville June 15 and will arrive in San Francisco Aug. 16. Dobbe has agreed to chronicle her journey across America as an honorary blogger on The Tiger Beat Blog.

Award-winning film director Irene Taylor Brodsky will show her film, Hear and Now, winner at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, at 7 p.m. June 14 in NTID’s Panara Theatre. Brodsky is an Emmy Award-winning news and documentary producer, writer, and photographer whose stories have aired on HBO, CBS, Fox, The History Channel and A & E. More than 140 colleges and universities from around the world are converging at RIT June 7-10 for the 2007 Baja SAE Rochester World Challenge. Many of the international competitors arrived early and have been putting the finishing touches on their cars before the competition begins on Thursday.

The sign is up to announce Collegetown, near the corner of Jefferson Road and John Street. The Collegetown concept envisions commercial, professional services, residential and entertainment space being housed in an architecturally distinctive setting with appeal to both RIT and to the greater Rochester community.

The 11th Annual Staff Appreciation Day & Community Picnic hosted a Classic Car Display on May 30. Brennan Coon’s daily ride, a 1968 Dodge Dart, just happens to be in RIT orange. Coon works as intramurals assistant and club sports coordinator at RIT’s Center for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation.
