RIT President Albert Simone led Coast-to-Coast Run participants on a "victory lap" of campus Dec. 3. The runners, who recently completed their cross-country relay, were officially welcomed back to campus by hundreds of cheering supporters. The Coast-to-Coast Run was completed in just over 12 days and helped celebrate the university's 175th anniversary.

Runners broke RIT’s previous record from 1979 by more than two days with a time of 12 days, 3 hours and 48 minutes. The run ended at the Annapolis, Md., city docks where they were met by supporters and parents of the team and members of the United States Naval Academy cross country team. A celebration will be held at 4:15 p.m. today, Dec. 3, at RIT at the administration circle and RITz Sports Zone.

Over 30 vendors sold their goods at RIT's annual Faculty and Staff On the Side Sale on Dec. 1. Customers from across campus browsed through the selling stations set up in the Student Alumni Union lobby and Fireside Lounge. Gift items for sale included handcrafted jewelry, pottery, games, floral arrangements, Christmas ornaments, and much more. This was the sale's fifth year.

RIT's Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies is winner of the 2004 NCAT Defense Manufacturing Excellence Award. The honor, presented on Nov. 30 in Las Vegas, highlights outstanding contributions in furthering defense manufacturing science and technology. The CIMS team was singled out for its "smart sensors" initiative--designed to monitor military vehicle performance using wireless transmission. A demonstration of that technology, seen in the above photo, was conducted on campus last August.

The RIT Coast-to-Coast team runs underneath the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Mo., late on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 25, after crossing the Mississippi River. They then continued on the route through St. Louis. The runners expect to complete the run well ahead of schedule today, Nov. 29, around 7 p.m. at the Annapolis City Docks. RIT cross country runner Sean "Okie" McVeigh enters both a new state and time zone during the RIT Coast-to-Coast run, on Oct. 18. Members and alumni of RIT's cross country teams get ready to participate in the 2,730-mile Coast-to-Coast cross country relay run, Nov. 17-30. In commemoration of RIT's 175th anniversary, the run repeats a 1979 feat that at the time was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. It kicks off at noon PST in San Diego, Calif.

Erin Wengrovius was among 75 first year students in RIT's art, design and crafts programs who made “Automata,” or simple machines, as part of their 3-D Design class. The students used power tools and wood to tell a story through these creations. Wengrovius’ “Automata” model was about the Lochness Monster.
