Qiao and Otieno publish in Optical Materials Express

Jie Qiao, associate professor of imaging science, and Cyril Otieno, imaging science Ph.D. candidate, published "Femtosecond-laser direct fabrication of convex microlens arrays in fused silica" in Optical Materials Express. Their research demonstrates a single step femtosecond-laser process for fabricating optical-quality fused silica microlens arrays with sub-nanometer surface roughness, fourfold higher processing efficiency at 515 nm than at 1030 nm, and 96 percent lens-to-lens uniformity, advancing deterministic fabrication of freeform micro-optics for imaging, sensing, and integrated photonics.
