Regional leaders excited about high-tech firm, Datto Inc., opening in the heart of downtown Rochester in START-UP NY program

Political leaders from across the region are applauding Datto Inc.’s grand opening of new office space in downtown Rochester. Datto is the first company to be located in the region under the state’s START-UP NY program. RIT was the first private university admitted to the state’s START-UP NY business development initiative: http://www.rit.edu/news/story.php?id=50834.

Here is what they are saying:

  • New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo: “Datto’s decision to invest in Rochester is the perfect example of how START-UP NY is providing a jolt to the local economy by bringing jobs and new businesses to Upstate. By partnering with RIT to open this new facility, Datto is helping to cement the Finger Lakes as a hub for groundbreaking technologies. I am proud that the state was able to play a role in bringing this company to downtown Rochester, and I look forward to seeing it drive the local economy for years to come.”
  • New York Lt. Gov. Robert J. Duffy: “Datto’s new expansion in the Rochester Institute of Technology’s downtown campus is a big win, not just for the city, but for the entire Upstate region. This is an example of how START-UP NY is growing the economy and bringing jobs to communities across our state, and it is one that will solidify Rochester as a hub for groundbreaking new industries. I want to thank RIT, Datto and everyone else involved in making this exciting announcement possible.”
  • New York Assembly Majority Leader Joseph Morelle: “As the region’s first START-UP New York participants, Datto Inc. and RIT’s exciting new partnership represents a significant step forward for Rochester. The Datto-RIT partnership will continue to build on the economic momentum we have worked so hard to create by further positioning our region as a global leader in advanced technology research and development. I applaud Governor Andrew Cuomo, RIT, and my colleagues on the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council for coming together behind a unified vision for our community that paved the way for Datto’s expansion into Rochester.”
  • New York State Sen. Joseph Robach: “Every job is critically important for the Rochester region and our economy. The fact that START-UP NY was directly cited for bringing Datto Inc. and the jobs created with this project to New York, rather than its home state of Connecticut, is reason for celebration. The partnership formed between Datto Inc. and RIT will not only bring beneficial economic development to downtown Rochester, it will also provide jobs and careers for hard working men and women in our community.”
  • Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren: “I am honored to welcome Datto Inc. to downtown Rochester and I look forward to watching this company grow even faster by tapping into the resources of Rochester, RIT and New York state. I applaud RIT for leveraging the opportunities presented by Governor Cuomo’s START-UP NY Program to advance our city’s position in the knowledge economy. The arrival of Datto in downtown Rochester is yet another example of RIT’s commitment to our community.”
  • Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks: “We are proud to welcome Datto Inc. to Monroe County as they build upon their already exceptional reputation as a leading provider of backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions. As a community that thrives on innovation, we need jobs for the next generations of innovators that are being educated at our local colleges and universities like RIT. We thank Datto for their investment in our local economy and for creating new jobs that will help retain our young talent and preserve our community’s world-class quality of life.”
  • New York State Assemblyman Harry Bronson: “When START-UP New York was proposed, Datto was just the kind of company I envisioned would expand into our state. It is my belief that Datto will provide a tremendous opportunity for our families and for our state's economic future.”
  • New York State Assemblyman David Gantt: “I am very happy to welcome Datto to the Rochester community. Their presence will add diversity to our economy and much needed job opportunities.”
  • New York State Sen. Patrick M. Gallivan: “I applaud Datto Inc. for recognizing the tremendous opportunities that RIT, Rochester and upstate New York have to offer under the START-UP NY program. Their commitment will create the jobs necessary to retain our highly talented and skilled workforce, especially college graduates who too often in the past had to leave New York to find jobs in their field. I congratulate Datto Inc. for being among the first companies to participate in the START-UP NY program, and I wish them well.”
  • New York State Sen. Ted O’Brien: “The opening of Datto Inc.’s Rochester office is great news for our region, which continues to position itself as a leader in the innovation economy. In the Rochester and Finger Lakes area, START-UP NY is fulfilling its mission of attracting businesses that are breaking new ground in emerging industries and spurring the job creation we need to revitalize the Upstate economy. I congratulate Datto and RIT on this exciting partnership, and applaud their commitment to creating good new jobs for Rochester-area residents.”
