RIT launches redesigned mobile app
First major overhaul in nearly a decade, shaped by student feedback
The new RIT mobile app provides quick access to key information and services across the university such as campus maps, daily menus, shuttle schedules, sporting events, emergency contacts, and much more.
Rochester Institute of Technology has launched a redesigned mobile app, bringing the information and services students use frequently into a single, easier-to-navigate experience, informed by student feedback, focus groups, and usage data.
The redesign shifts from a primarily link-based experience to one that puts dining menus, online food ordering, shuttle schedules, maps, events, and other campus services directly in students' hands.

The RIT Mobile App is available for iPhone and Android devices.
Also included are the academic calendar, game schedules and scores, recreation and wellness facility hours, emergency and safety resources, and a searchable faculty and staff directory.
Designed and developed by RIT’s Division of Marketing and Communications, the new platform gives RIT greater flexibility to respond to student needs and expand features over time. The in-house development also saves approximately $50,000 annually in licensing and vendor costs.
“Students were clear they wanted more from the old app, and we took that seriously,” said Raman Bhalla, associate vice president, University Web Services.
“We'll continue adding new features based on how students use it,” Bhalla said. “Future enhancements will include personalized content like class schedules and a dining budget tracker that will help students understand whether they are on pace with their meal plan spending for the semester.”
The app also includes a feedback feature that allows users to report bugs and suggest future enhancements directly within the app.
The project involved significant collaboration with Information and Technology Services and numerous campus partners, including marketing and communications teams within Student Affairs, Finance and Administration, RIT Dining, Recreation and Wellness, Public Safety, Parking and Transportation Services, Division of Enrollment Management, and several other academic and administrative units.
“This project is a great example of what can happen when students, campus partners, and technology teams come together around a common goal,” said John Trierweiler, vice president, Marketing and Communications, and chief marketing officer. “The result is a more useful, flexible, and responsive platform that improves how students connect with the services and resources they rely on every day.”
