RIT Performing Artists Concert Series Features Thomas Schumacher Nov. 2

Thomas Schumacher, professor emeritus of piano at the Eastman School of Music, will perform at 8 p.m. Nov. 2 in the Student Alumni Union’s Ingle Auditorium on the RIT campus.

The second installment of Rochester Institute of Technology’s Performing Artists Concert Series features a performance by renowned concert artist Thomas Schumacher. The Professor Emeritus of Piano at the Eastman School of Music will perform at 8 p.m. Nov. 2 in the Student Alumni Union’s Ingle Auditorium on the RIT campus.

The varied program includes selections from Bach-Liszt, Scarlatti, Beethoven, Gershwin and Rachmaninoff. The concert represents another example of the ongoing relationship between RIT and the Eastman School of Music to promote area musicians.

Schumacher was a professor of piano at Eastman from 1995 to 2008 and is currently a visiting professor at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music in China. He studied at the Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School, winning the highest honors at both schools.

Schumacher was a prizewinner in the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition and the JUGG Award Competition, resulting in his New York Town Hall debut recital. He has performed as a soloist with major orchestras including the Toronto Symphony, Tokyo Philharmonic, Warsaw Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic and National Symphony. Schumacher also performed the world premiere of David Diamond’s Piano Concerto with the New York Philharmonic in 1967.
