RIT Professor’s Book Focuses on MATLAB Programming
P. "Venkat" Venkataraman of Brighton, associate professor of mechanical engineering in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology, wrote the textbook, Applied Optimization with MATLAB Programming (John Wiley & Sons Inc., 2002). The book combines instruction on classical methods of design optimization with application using MATLAB.
"I’m pleased to publish this book as it captures my knowledge in the very interesting area of optimization," Venkataraman says. "The approach in the book is simple and at the same time practical as it teaches the tool with which to apply it."
Venkataraman, 49, has a doctorate in aero-astronautics and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, both from Rice University, and a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India. He has been on the RIT faculty since 1984.
Note: According to a national survey by U.S. News & World Report, RIT’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering ranks fourth in the nation among undergraduate and graduate engineering programs, offering degrees in computer, electrical, industrial and systems, mechanical, and microelectronic engineering, applied statistics and engineering science.
RIT was the first university to offer undergraduate degrees in microelectronic and software engineering. Founded in 1829, RIT has one of the nation’s oldest and largest cooperative education programs.
