Students from the Imagine RIT “S’Mores 2.0” exhibit will be at Wegmans’ Pittsford store on Saturday demonstrating the machine and handing out the treats.

Student-engineers from Rochester Institute of Technology will treat guests at Wegmans’ Pittsford store on Saturday to tasty s’mores during an event that showcases summer foods and preparation.

Students from the “S’Mores 2.0” exhibit, featured recently during the university’s Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival, will be demonstrating the assembly technology and distributing treats from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, in front of the store near its popular Burger Bar Restaurant.

The s’mores exhibit is a series of assembly technologies, built entirely by undergraduate students from RIT’s College of Applied Science and Technology. Visitors will be able to learn more about the different robotic mechanisms used to build the assembly-process machine including conveyor belts, heating mechanisms for marshmallows to packaging the final gooey but delicious sandwich.

Wegmans donated the graham crackers for the exhibit at the Imagine festival and have provided the products once again for Saturday’s event. Milk chocolate bars were donated by The Hershey Co. RIT’s packaging science department designed the s’mores wrapper for the process.

The event is free and open to the public.
