Support for those impacted by wildfires in California, Oregon, and Washington

As wildfires continue to burn throughout the states of California, Oregon, and Washington, we offer our support to the almost 500 students, thousands of RIT alumni, and many additional RIT community members who call these states home.

These fires are some of the most disastrous in the history of the three states, and they have resulted in the loss of life as well as damage to homes and businesses. It is natural to want to offer support to the impacted communities during these devastating times. Below are a few ways for you to assist.

American Red Cross: The Red Cross depends on donations to provide immediate relief. It is currently supporting evacuation centers, mobilizing volunteers and supplies, and providing meals and health services for affected residents. Support communities affected by visiting redcross.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make a financial contribution.

  • For California wildfires, you can also text "CAWILDFIRES" to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
  • For Oregon and Washington, you can donate to the American Red Cross Northwest Region.

Give Blood or Platelets: The Red Cross needs eligible individuals to give blood or platelets to help ensure a readily available supply for patients in need. You can donate locally at the Henrietta Blood Donation Center on John St.

California Volunteers: The California Volunteers organization is charged with coordinating volunteer activities and donations in times of disaster. It has identified several organizations that are accepting financial contributions to assist those affected by the fires.

Travel Oregon: Travel Oregon has identified a number of organizations that are accepting both financial support and supplies for evacuees.

As you consider opportunities to make financial contributions in support of relief efforts, review Charity Navigator’s “5 Steps to Informed Giving.” You can also use the “Charity Search” tool to research organizations you are considering for a donation.
