Summary

The Interpreter Education and Professional Development department (IEPD) supports a culture of life-long learning, celebrating diversity, and advancing professional excellence in the field of interpreting. IEPD is interested in dedicated professionals who wish to join a diverse and expansive community of interpreter educators who are committed to teaching and empowering interpreters and educators in their development of skills, knowledge, and competencies through innovative interpreter education courses, materials, and trainings.

The Interpreter Education and Professional Development Program Manager will work under the direction of the Director of Continuing Education and Professional Development Programs. The key candidate will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of programs and projects that support interpreters who seek resources and trainings to achieve professional development growth to work as an interpreter across a variety of environments. These programs and projects also support the developing skills of through eLearning, on-demand recording courses, and instructor led webinars. This is a dynamic and fast-paced position that works with individuals who are both internal and external to the company. The candidate will supervise multiple individuals who are supporting teams across the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, manage, deliver and evaluate training programs designed to meet specific shareholder requirements on time and within budget.
  • Create, reviews, and evaluate training content to ensure offerings are effective for the intended learners and are within scope and budget
  • Manage all aspects of their assigned programs and staff while also partnering with other shareholders (Sales, Interpreting Services, HR, Marketing, etc.) on cross-team projects
  • Model excellence in instruction and interpreting best practices working with diverse learner populations and be part of a collaborative team
  • Maintain program budgets, costs and other reporting requirements
  • Serves as a trusted interpreter education resource to internal and external customers and ensures that training materials, programs, and services reflect the goals of the department and organization.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong project management experience a must including creating and maintaining project documentation, analytics, and evaluations
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills with internal and external shareholders of all levels to successfully manage their program delivery  
  • Innovative thinker and team player who can effectively drive teams to complete projects under tight timelines and within budget with enthusiasm and grace
  • Experience in designing and delivery of interpreter training using eLearning software, Canvas, or Articulate 360.
  • Ability to provide instruction in a broad spectrum of topics relating to ASL-English interpreting and experience with a wide variety of learners from post-secondary to working professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability working within the Microsoft Suite--Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, One Note, Publisher
  • Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to quality education and student-centeredness as well as a history of innovation, a global and multi-cultural perspective, and an interest in supporting learning initiatives in underrepresented communities

Experience/Education/Certifications

  • Experience in designing, managing, and delivery of large-scale trainings/ workshops in varied formats.   
  • Demonstrated abilities and experience in project management. PMP certification is a bonus.
  • 3+ years management experience
  • Credentials from a national interpreter certifying entity (RID CSC, CI/CT, CDI, NIC, BEI, or NAD Level IV or V) and/or comprehensive state certification granted through a certifying entity such as a Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (individuals in process of achieving CDI will be considered)
  • Solid understanding of the RID/NAD Code of Professional Conduct
  • May be asked to provide a teaching demonstration and/or project management portfolio before the position will be offered

    • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, tools, and to handle other computer components
    • Visual acuity to see text and objects on a computer screen
    • Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time with occasional breaks Ability to sit for extended periods of time with occasional breaks
    • Ability to work in an office setting with fluorescent lighting and variable indoor temperatures
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Ability to manage multiple, ongoing projects simultaneously, flexible work schedule and travel schedule
  • Positive attitude, team player, good interpersonal communication skills and able to work across both external and internal partners
  • Ability to communicate fluently and manage staff in American Sign Language and English
