Job Description:
Staff Sign Language Interpreter and Mentor
Location: Based in Central Virginia, with onsite and virtual work
Position: Type: Full time salary, exempt
Compensation: $70,000 - 80,000/ year

The primary needs this position seeks to fill include medical and academic
interpreting onsite in Central Virginia (Richmond/Charlottesville). The ideal
candidate will have experience working in medical and academic arenas, have
reliable transportation, and work collaboratively with the scheduling team to
construct a mutually acceptable schedule.

Overview:
ASL Interpreting: 32 hours/week (Averaged over a quarter)
As a staff interpreter, you would be responsible for providing ASL-English
interpretation on site and VRI, in alignment with your skills, availability,
and comfort level. You retain all rights to decline assignments you are not
comfortable with.
While we understand that hours ebb and flow, we ask for a weekly target of 32
Mosaic-billable hours, averaged over the quarter. Mosaic-billable hours
include late cancellations and drive time. If you have new work scheduled
during the time period of a late cancellation, you may count the hours for
both jobs towards your weekly target. Should you have more than 32 hours in a
given week, these hours may be applied towards the hourly quota for another
week or converted into PTO.
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Provide high-quality, culturally responsive interpreting services for
internal and external meetings, events, and programs virtually and onsite
● Interpret in a variety of settings including team meetings, community
workshops, and stakeholder calls
● Prepare in advance as needed for context and terminology
● Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards of practice

Mentoring: 1- 3 hours/ week (Averaged over a quarter)
● Meet 1:1 with Early Career Interpreters for skill development, moral
support, and guidance
● Support Director of Education with apprenticeship needs, as requested
