Job Title: Staff ASL Instructor
Job Type: Permanent
Start Date: ASAP
Address:
848 Central Street
Framingham, Massachusetts. 01701

Job Description:
This position will design, develop, implement and teach ASL Staff Program for
TLC Employees. At TLC, the primary language of communication is ASL. Some of
our employees have either limited or minimum ASL proficiency or require
additional training in ASL to meet our deaf students and families’ needs.
Some key positions are chronically challenging to recruit job applicants who
are ASL-fluent and are highly qualified in their fields. This position aims
to build a robust, in-house ASL instruction program for our staff to continue
to reduce systemic barriers to serving our own and other deaf students,
families, and staff in a fully linguistically-accessible,
culturally-competent manner. Successful implantation of this work will create
a fully accessible bilingual campus where the primary language of interaction
is ASL and ultimately reduce interpreter use for employee staff meetings over
time. TLC aims to provide support and accountability in ASL proficiency
levels of all employee members.

Supervisor: ASL Program Analyst

Functions and Responsibilities:

Teach ASL classes for TLC staff that are learning ASL at The Learning Center
in American Sign Language on a virtual platform and fulfill other

Formally assess TLC employees’ ASL proficiency and keep track of their
progress through evidence and data collection and organization.

Recommend a plan for the next steps for TLC employee’s ASL acquisition and
receptive proficiency to ensure they become high-quality language models for
DHH students

Develop ASL-based materials to supplement the pace of ASL learning

Work with ASL Program Strategist and ASL instructors to improve course and
assessment of staff language acquisition.

Encourage and advise ASL-related participation and activities to maintain ASL
fluency and promote Deaf culture competency among TLC staff.

Stay abreast of new developments in ASL usage and instruction, academic
language in ASL, and technological and video applications through
participation in professional development and perusal of new research
findings.

Report to the ASL Program Analyst with concerns or issues from the classes

Perform other duties as assigned by the ASL Program Analyst
