Scientific Visualization of Glaucoma
For an assignment in her Scientific Visualization course, Becca Lewis ’26 (medical illustration) created a detailed poster illustrating the effect glaucoma can have on patients. Glaucoma is a condition that may damage the optic nerve or retinal cells in the back of the eye to the point of vision loss or blindness.
The educational poster was prompted by an assignment to illustrate the important molecules and their processes in a disease of the student’s choice.
“I enjoy the editorial side behind medical illustration, and I especially want to emphasize accessibility for visual learners in patient education,” Lewis said.
The RIT medical illustration program’s Scientific Visualization class explores the use of emerging technologies to provide references for traditional artwork and to export models for digital rendering and animation.
