So you checked out the co-op requirements. You’re living in your own dorm. You want to make some extra spending money, complete your co-ops, or maybe you just want to start working. Well, let's discuss how to find a job on-campus.
On-Campus Jobs
If you want to get started in the world of work or just want to make some money on the side alongside your classes, an on-campus job could be for you. The easiest jobs to get on campus are going to be dining hall or market jobs. Often, especially at the beginning of the year, the campus dining halls and markets hire new students to make up for all of the students that graduated. If you wouldn’t mind working with food or a checkout counter, this could be a great job to take at the start of the year. Of course, make sure you have the time and energy for it. College can be a lot.
Remote Jobs
Some jobs on-campus and off-campus are going to be remote, meaning you can do them from the comfort of your own room. These can be harder to find, but tend to be great if you can grab one! While the requirements will vary, just as they will for any job, you might be able to manage your stress better by staying inside for work. These can work for co-ops, too!
Job Fairs
From time to time, RIT will host job fairs, which are where employers come together to look for possible employees. These job fairs can take extra prep, but can be great ways to see what’s out there and meet individual employers. These are great for finding co-ops and jobs for when you graduate. Although if you're a first-year, don't worry about that just yet. If you want to get a jumpstart on co-ops, this is the place for it!
Where to Look
Your usual job-hunting sites like Indeed can you help you find co-ops. However, RIT has its very own job search site: Career Connect. I would recommend checking from time to time to see what you can find in terms of jobs on- and off- campus. You can sort jobs by whether or not they’re on campus, if they count as co-ops, and set notifications for jobs you’re looking for.
Job fairs are going to be advertised around campus, same for a lot of other on-campus jobs. You want to keep an eye out for any fliers with QR codes to applications! You can also ask around towards the beginning of the year if you really want a job on campus. A lot of places might not be advertising yet, but could still be looking. Just make sure you’re able to balance your school work with your job work.
