How RIT Came onto My Radar for Grad School

As I approached the end of my undergraduate studies, the question of what to do next loomed large. Graduate school? A job? The options were overwhelming. After countless hours of research and soul-searching, one name consistently stood out to me: Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Here’s how RIT captured my attention and why it became the perfect fit for my master’s in software engineering.

A Family Inspiration 

One of the pivotal moments in my decision-making process came from a personal connection. My aunt, who I deeply admire, graduated from RIT and is now thriving at Google. Hearing her stories about her time at RIT made a significant impact on me. She often credits RIT for providing her with the skills, knowledge, and connections that propelled her career forward. Her success story inspired me to consider RIT seriously as I embarked on my academic journey.

The idea of gaining industry experience while studying was incredibly appealing.

This flexibility meant that I could tailor my education to fit my career aspirations in software engineering while exploring other interests along the way. The more I learned, the more I felt that RIT was not just another university; it was a community where students could thrive.

My excitement peaked when I attended a virtual open house hosted by RIT. During this session, I interacted with current students and faculty members who shared their experiences and insights about the program. The faculty’s dedication to mentoring students was evident; they genuinely cared about our success and were eager to share their industry insights. Hearing firsthand accounts of students working on real-world projects solidified my decision—I wanted this experience for myself.

Now at RIT

Now that I'm pursuing my master’s in software engineering at RIT, I can confidently say it was one of the best decisions I've made. The curriculum is challenging yet rewarding, and I've had the opportunity to work on research projects that align perfectly with my interests. Just this semester, I collaborated with a professor on a project focused on machine learning applications in software development. It is thrilling to see our ideas come to life and contribute to something  impactful. 

Building Connections

The sense of community here is palpable. My classmates and I often study together, sharing insights and encouraging each other through late-night coding sessions. We’ve formed study groups that not only help us academically but also foster friendships that will last beyond our time at RIT. Plus, the networking opportunities are incredible! I've already connected with industry professionals through guest lectures and events organized by the university.

Final Thoughts

Choosing RIT for my master’s in software engineering has been a transformative experience. The combination of hands-on learning, supportive faculty, and collaborative peers has exceeded my expectations.
