Are you a hockey player, a fan of the sport, or somebody who has never watched a game and would like to experience it? Well, RIT is a great place for all fans of ice sports. It's definitely RIT's biggest and most popular sport, plus we have a pretty good hockey team. So what is the experience of seeing one of these games like?
Getting There
I usually go to hockey games during Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend. There are shuttles to transport students and families to the arena, so you don't have to drive. It definitely makes it easier to get there and check out a game if you don't have to worry about transportation.
Arena
The Gene Polisseni Center is a smaller arena. It's not so small that everybody is cramped together, but what I think is best is that every seat has a good view of the game. Also, come hungry! Of course, there are all the classics, such as pretzels, hot dogs, and chicken wings!
The Game
Now let's discuss the actual game. RIT students have a lot of school spirit! It's a ton of fun to learn what all of the chants are! Plus, our Pep Band is amazing. And when the hockey team is good, the games are even better when we’re winning!
Schedules
RIT Athletics always has its own schedule on the website, so you can check there to find out the times for games. I also tend to see physical signs for Game Today placed around campus when it's game day, so you can always come across one of those and decide to have some fun that night at a game! I'd always recommend going on special days such as Brick City Weekend, where the vibes are just impeccable and wonderful to experience.
Would I recommend going to see a hockey game? If you like sports, yes! If you want something to try out on a day when you don't have much to do, yes! For Brick City, absolutely! Go for it! Hockey games at RIT are a ton of fun, often because of the chants and the enthusiastic students. Plus, you need to cross this item off the RIT Bucket List.
