Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend is a RIT tradition where families come to RIT for activities, learning more about the college, and, of course, checking in on their favorite student… you! While this doesn’t seem like something you would need to prepare for a nice day out with the family, it can be a bit more complicated for people not local to Rochester or people who want to see specific RIT events.
Hotels
Keep hotels in mind if your family is from out of town and needs overnight accommodations. Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend draws a big crowd, so be careful to book your hotels earlier rather than at the last minute.
Events
There is a huge variety of events that RIT runs this weekend! Some are geared towards your parents with RIT information they may be interested in. Some are family-oriented, such as stuffing your own plush tiger. Some events have early sign-up due to slots! Check the events before the date and make sure you sign up for the event you want to try that has limited space!

Food
Get your parents to try out the dining halls! Your very first Gracie’s meal! The dining halls are going to be open as usual, and your family can see what you’ve been eating all of this time since they left you at school. Plus, it makes it easy, so you don’t have to leave campus!
Sports
Every Brick City Weekend, there’s a hockey game you and your family can attend. I highly recommend going to at least one hockey game during your time at RIT. The energy is electric!
Dorms
Now here’s where you come in. Try to keep your area clean so your parents are happy with how you’re keeping everything. I know from experience that my dorm room is the first thing my family wants to check, so make sure that’s nice and sorted out before you start heading out to the events on campus! Your parents will enjoy seeing the dorm in this new light now that everyone is moved in.
Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend is a great time to see your parents again after the semester has really gotten underway. Plus, it's a great way to have fun with some special events around the campus! I always recommend trying to get your family to come; if they cannot, walk around by yourself to see what events are out there!
