You Need To Go Shopping: A Guide To the RIT Shuttles

One major concern for students could be getting from place to place. If you don’t have access to a car, how are you going to get things not available in the campus stores? Luckily for you, RIT offers a free shuttle system that transports students to nearby grocery stores.

What’s nearby?

Near RIT, the main stores that the shuttle will be taking you to are Walmart, Target and Wegmans. The campus shuttle also brings students to residential areas such as Global Village, the dorm side of campus, Perkins, Park Point and the RIT Inn.

How do I find the bus schedule?

You can check the RIT shuttle schedule using RIT’s very own Parking and Transportation Services website. All you need to know is what time you want to leave, and what time you would like to return to campus.

There's also the Weekend Retail Shuttle: your best choice for going shopping and buying things you need. I recommend to keep a time to head back in mind, or at the very least to have the schedule up on your phone to make sure you know when it's time to finish up. Doing that leads to a smooth and stressless experience.

What if I miss the bus?

There will be another bus soon. Check when the shuttles stop running for your chosen trip, but it's usually it's late at night, so just keep that in mind. If you’re in an area with a close by walkable bus stop, such as Walmart (which has two stops!), try to head towards the next closest one so you can make the bus and not have to wait for it to come all the way back. If it's cold, and you end up waiting a while, stay inside! Walmart is much warmer than the winters of upstate New York.

Absolutely no reason to be worried, though. It's more of an adventure than anything, and it feels great to have the independence of going shopping for your snacks on your own.
