Abstract
:

This talk will broadly cover what science policy is and how scientists from all fields, with all levels of expertise, and in all career stages can participate in this policy space. I will discuss generally what it means to work in science policy, and will provide specific examples based on my experience as an AAAS science policy fellow in the Department of Energy. Finally, I will share some resources for students and others who are interested in exploring short-term opportunities and longer-term career options directly or tangentially related to science policy.

Speaker Bio:
Dr. Megan DeCesar is an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology Policy Fellow in the Department of Energy’s Solar Energy Technologies Office. She earned her Ph.D. in astrophysics from the University of Maryland, and her research focuses on pulsar timing for gravitational wave detection. As a science policy fellow, her portfolio includes open energy data, “re-X” for solar panels, and “agrivoltaics."
