Abstract
:

Decametric radio emissions (DAM) originating in Jupiter’s polar auroras have been observed from Earth since 1955 and from near-equator spacecraft such as Voyager. The Juno mission is providing stunning information as it is orbiting Jupiter and recording these events in a wide range of latitudes. While a maximum frequency of these emissions is expected due to Jupiter's relation with Io, the lack of agreement between the observed value and those predicted by Jovian magnetic field models has been hotly debated. Here, the results from a detailed analysis of Io and non-Io-related DAM identified by Juno are presented, as well as how a newly proposed magnetic field model can accommodate the Io-DAM observations. Finally, Jupiter’s orbital forcing on Earth’s ice-age cycles will be briefly discussed based on new results obtained in the sediments collected in a recent Antarctic expedition.

Speaker Bio:
Dr. Martoswas born in Spain and studied Physics and Geophysics at the Complutense University of Madrid. She completed her PhD in Earth Sciences at the University of Granada, focusing on the geodynamic evolution and paleoceanographic implications of the final break-up of the Supercontinent Gondwana. She has worked for the International Ocean Discovery Program, became a Marie Curie Fellow of the European Commission at the British Antarctic Survey, and has participated in more than 20 international projects and 15 expeditions, offshore and on land, in places like Antarctica, Dominican Republic, and the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. She is now at the Planetary Magnetosphere Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center working on the Juno Mission to Jupiter.
