Dr. Michael Welte
Faculty and Biology Researcher
University of Rochester
Abstract:
I am an academic scientist and a gay man. My scientific focus is cell and developmental biology, in particular how fat storage organelles modulate cell behavior and animal development. I will talk about my career in science, my growth as a queer person, and how the two aspects of my identity are interwoven. Both paths had many unexpected twists and turns; and I will share some of the frustrations, failures, and successes along the way. I hope to engage with the audience in an exchange of ideas for how to live authentically, as a queer person, as a scientist, and as a queer person in science.
