First Five Weeks - Week 2: Office Hours – Ancient Artifacts or Endless Possibilities?

Many faculty enjoy open office hours – a time to catch up on email, eat lunch, and maybe prep for their next class – because no students will actually show up! Why is this? Do we need office hours in the 21st century? Or are we missing a golden opportunity to establish connections with students outside of the course content that can better support them in our classes and beyond?

Presenter: Dr. Sandi Connelly, Interim Associate Director CTL and Faculty Gosnell School of Life Sciences

About the "First Five Weeks" Series
The challenges and stressors that impact faculty throughout a term are most often rooted in the First Five Weeks of a course. In this new series sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning, we will investigate some of the most common issues in our classrooms today. The series will be delivered in a unique format: 15 minute presentations followed by 30 minutes of discussion and questions. If you only attend the first 15 minutes, you will still walk away with immediately implementable strategies!
