Signing Science: Academic Leadership in Deaf Spaces - An Interview with Peter Hauser
This series of interviews was made possible through an RIT Provost’s Leadership Opportunity Grant. Questions should be directed to Matthew Dye (mwddls@rit.edu).
Signing Science: Academic Leadership in Deaf Spaces is a series of interviews with research leaders who have founded successful research programs that include, develop and promote deaf students, trainees, staff and faculty. Through these interviews, we hope to be able to promote thought and discussion about what it means to be a deaf-centered research leader across a range of academic disciplines.
Our first interview is with Professor Peter Hauser, founding director of NTID’s Center on Culture and Language. Dr. Hauser has an extensive publication record that covers deaf cognition, second language learning, language assessment, literacy development, deaf health, and mentoring of deaf and hard-of-hearing scientists. His research center contains six laboratories (each directed by a deaf PI) and also supports mentoring and graduate education programs designed to identify and nurture young deaf scientists. Dr. Hauser will be interviewed by Jessica Contreras, a longtime collaborator, colleague and friend. Time will be reserved at the end of the interview for questions from the audience.
Interpreters and captioning have been requested. This session will be recorded.
