Understanding Sepsis: Dueling Roles for Dual Oriented Pal
Event Image
Sepsis is a life-threatening disease caused by the body’s response to infection, annually causing 1 in 5 deaths worldwide. Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a common causal organism of bacterial sepsis. In this presentation, Dr. Lea Michel focuses on one E. coli protein, Pal. Pal is released from E. coli in several animal models of sepsis and causes an inflammatory response and death in certain animal models, suggesting that Pal may be a bacterial mediator of E. coli sepsis.
