    RIT's Career Fair returned to the Gordon Field House this year. Students are able to meet with representatives from more than 100 national, regional, and local companies until 4 p.m. today. Because the number of participating companies was capped due to COVID-19 protocols, a virtual career fair is also scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 14 via RIT Career Connect.

    Mud Tug is an annual event hosted by Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Held behind Grace Watson Hall, teams of 10 competed in a tug-of-war tournament over pits of mud. The event raises funds for the Hillside Family of Agencies.

    Students volunteer to write toe tags to prepare for the installation of an upcoming exhibit, “Hostile Terrain 94.” Volunteers are needed to complete the thousands of tags, each representing a person who died in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona attempting to migrate into the U.S. More writing workshops are planned in preparation for the exhibit on Sept. 30 and Oct. 6, 14, and 21.

    Kelly Weber, a second-year film production student from Avon, N.Y., prints a memento with a hand press from the Cary Graphic Arts Collection. RIT Libraries held a grand opening celebration Sept. 23 of Wallace on Ice. The Ritter Ice Arena is its temporary home while Wallace Library is renovated during the SHED construction.

    Alumnus Sean Bratches ’91 (business administration), former executive at Formula 1 Racing and ESPN, was the keynote speaker at this year’s 2021 Fram Signature Lecture, co-sponsored by Saunders College of Business and the Eugene H. Fram Chair in Applied Critical Thinking. The lecture, “Critical Thinking: Defining a Brand in the Fast Lane,” took place in Ingle Auditorium on Sept. 21.

    Students participate in a workshop and writing session to prepare for the installation of the Hostile Terrain 94 exhibition, a participatory project organized by the Undocumented Migration Project, coming to RIT's campus Oct. 25 through Dec. 5. Each handwritten toe tag represents a person who died in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona attempting to migrate into the U.S.

    Cadets in RIT's ROTC program have been marking the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks since 2012. In addition to planting American flags in the lawn near the Sentinel, Taps is played at 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., 9:37 a.m., and 10:03 a.m. as a tribute to those who lost their lives during the four terrorist attacks in New York City; Washington, D.C.; and in Pennsylvania.     Mark Davitt, founding CEO of ConServe, was named the 2021 recipient of the Herbert W. Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Award, presented by Saunders College of Business at RIT during a celebratory luncheon at Locust Hill Country Club on Sept. 8.

    The Rochester Red Wings baseball team partnered with RIT/NTID and Rochester School for the Deaf to host the second Deaf Culture Day at Frontier Field on Sept. 2. The night featured a “silent inning,” and The Star-Spangled Banner and God Bless America performed in sign language, along with other activities. The Red Wings played as the Plates, wearing American Sign Language jerseys. Here, NTID President Gerry Buckley throws the first pitch.
