Carichino, Maki, Ross, and students publish in Mathematical Biosciences and Engineering Journal
Lucia Carichino, assistant professor; Kara Maki, professor; and David Ross, professor, in the School of Mathematics and Statistics; along with Riley Supple, a mathematical modeling Ph.D. candidate, and Evan Rysdam ‘22 (computer science and applied mathematics) published “Quantifying ocular surface changes with contact lens wear” in the Mathematical Biosciences and Engineering Journal. A mathematical model was developed to study the mechanical interaction between a contact lens and the eye, predicting ocular deformation and stresses due to contact lens wear. The research will aid lens manufacturers and clinicians by theoretically predicting the performance of a lens design without having to try the lens on the patient.
