Dyer Arts Center presents ‘Perspective Fusions’

Artist Ron Throop “sneaks” text into his paintings and said the poignant titles of his works, such as “Rimbaud the Line Cook,” embellish a canvas’s story. As he explained, “I want to paint the picture, but I am also eager to get a feeling off my chest.”

Marilyn Groch uses items like handbags, cosmetics, women’s shoes and everyday objects to fill the landscapes of her paintings. In “Looking Back”—which features trays of sunglasses in “ready-made still life” from vendor displays in Venice, Calif.—Groch said, “The reflections are actually of me, and the title means many things including reflecting back on my years living in California.”

Throop, who hails from Oswego, and Groch, based in Rochester, are featured artists in the upcoming “Perspective Fusions” exhibition at Dyer Arts Center at Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf. The show runs from June 4-30, with an artist reception scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 7.

“I am thrilled to be sharing space with Marilyn Groch, and love the juxtaposition of this show,” said Throop. “Paint has the power to bring virtue to both playful expression and masterful realism.”
