RIT and Alstom are coming together to help advance cybersecurity education, development, and research in the transportation industry. Through a new collaboration, the French mobility technology company will provide RIT students with educational, research, and career opportunities. Alstom has also been named theme-sponsor for RIT’s next Global Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC) in 2023-2024.

Scientists uncovered what they believe to be the first astronomical map. The discovery, outlined in recent studies published in the Journal for the History of Astronomy and the Classical Quarterly, was made in part thanks to multispectral imaging conducted by researchers at Rochester Institute of Technology’s Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science.

The Department of Performing Arts at RIT/NTID presents a celebration of the career of Director of Dance Thomas Warfield in “Twenty-five Years Through Movement and Space,” Feb. 24-26. The production honors Warfield’s 25 years as a senior lecturer and director of Dance at RIT/NTID and features dances from Warfield’s creative journey.

A partnership agreement between RIT’s Golisano Institute for Sustainability and Wells College will enable students from the Aurora, N.Y., school to enroll in RIT’s sustainable systems MS degree program.

Ellen Granberg is stepping down as provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs at RIT. Granberg, RIT’s provost since 2018, will become president of the George Washington University, and the first woman to serve in this role at GW, when she begins her tenure July 1.

Both sides have their value, and Maddy Schoenfeld ’20 (metals and jewelry design) believes that combining the analytical and creative can elevate a small business.

New data from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) have revealed that the structures of galaxies in the early universe were much more diverse and mature than previously known. RIT Associate Professor Jeyhan Kartaltepe said that JWST’s ability to see faint high redshift galaxies in sharper detail than Hubble allowed the team of researchers to resolve more features and see a wide mix of galaxies.

The best white hat cybersecurity students will work to phish and exploit their way to a championship trophy at the Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC) global finals Jan. 13–15. The event is the culmination of the world’s largest offense-based collegiate cybersecurity competition, hosted by RIT.

Eight first-year RIT students have been selected to become the university’s first Disability Leadership Scholars to advocate and to educate about disabilities.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) announced an increase in the annual appropriation for RIT/NTID. RIT/NTID received $92.5 million for the fiscal year 2023, a $4 million increase from 2022.
