Osher Lifelong Learning Continues Arts and Lectures Series with Big Band Sounds
Dick Otto and his Musicmakers will pay tribute to veterans of the armed forces

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s Arts and Lectures series presents a “Swing Era” afternoon with Dick Otto and his Big Band Musicmakers on March 9 at RIT’s University Gallery.
Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Chick Webb all competed in the “Battle of the Bands” at New York City’s Savoy Ballroom.
Now once again the music and sounds of yesteryear will be celebrated as Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s Arts and Lectures series presents a “Swing Era” afternoon with Dick Otto and his Big Band Musicmakers. The members-only event, which also includes swing-dancing entertainment, will be held 2 to 4 p.m. March 9 in the University Gallery, James E. Booth Hall at Rochester Institute of Technology.
Osher Program Director Sara Connor says the event will also honor 22 Osher members who have served their country. “This is a USO-type celebration and the Musicmakers will pay special tribute by performing anthems of each branch of the U.S. military.”
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at RIT is a member-led organization that stimulates minds and forges friendships among people ages 50 and older who live in Greater Rochester. For more information about classes and events, go to the RIT Osher Lifelong Learning Institute website.
