James Winebrake, chair of the department of science, technology and society/public policy, testifies at a public hearing of the New York State Assembly held at RIT recently. The hearing was sponsored by the Assembly Committee on Energy and focused on the growing crisis surrounding energy costs. Professor Winebrake testified on the use of alternative energies to deal with the problem. Carl Lundgren, professor of manufacturing engineering technology, is also pictured. -

Members of the RIT community participated in the eighth annual Campus Week of Dialogue, Oct. 24-28, sponsored by the Commission for Promoting Pluralism. This yearâs theme, Focus on Women, explored the role of women in their personal and professional lives. Here, NTIDâs Patti Durr spoke about deaf women artists. -

Fashions inspired by the 1988 comedy movie Coming to America, starring Eddie Murphy, were featured during RIT's annual Unity Fashion Show on Nov. 5. Student organizers partnered with participants from other area high schools and colleges to coordinate the program, hosted by RIT's Black Awareness Coordinating Committee and the North Star Center for Academic Success and Cultural Affairs. -

Audience members follow along with a presentation about podcasts at HighEdWebDev 2005, one of only a few Web-related conferences tailored exclusively for higher education. The conference, held Nov. 6-9 at the RIT Inn & Conference Center, offered several workshops by leading Web development experts, and featured showcase presentations and social events. -

Lella and Massimo Vignelli, who have influenced the world of design for more than 40 years, will be lecturing at RIT from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, in Webb auditorium in the James E. Booth Building. The lecture, Design is One, is free and open to the public. -

Joey McIntosh, left, fourth-year student in RIT's School of Film and Animation, poses with Emmy Award-winning actress Edie Falco at the Princess Grace Award ceremony in New York City. McIntosh was among the award winners to be honored at the Oct. 26 event. He receives a $5,500 grant to complete his senior thesis. This is the sixth straight year that an RIT student filmmaker has been recognized by the Princess Grace Foundation, which aims to help aspiring artists pursue their career goals. -

Nabil Nasr, right, director of the Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies at RIT greets Brigadier General Glenn F. Spears of the U.S. Air Force. General Spears toured CIMSâ state-of-the-art labs and discussed ongoing military research with Nasr and his team of engineers and scientists. CIMS is partnering with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corp on several projects to assist in creating safer and more efficient parts and designs for military aircraft, ships and vehicles. Award-winning painter Harvey Breverman shares insights on his artist passion during a visit with students in RIT's School of Art on Oct. 25. He also offered a presentation at Gallery r, the university's off-campus, student-run gallery of contemporary art. Breverman, the SUNY Distinguished Professor of Art at the University of Buffalo, has exhibited around the globe, and his work is included in museum collection in the United States, England and Israel. -

Fans cheer on the RIT Tigers men's hockey team moments after a thrilling 3-2 victory over the St. Lawrence Saints at Ritter Arena on Friday, Oct. 28. It's the first home victory for the Tigers since their rise to Division I. RIT goaltender Jocelyn Guimond tallied 66 saves against St. Lawrence, ranked 18th in the nation. Liz Bonis â88 (general dietetics and nutrition) was among School of Hospitality and Service Management alumni who participated in an alumni panel and who were recognized at the annual Hospitality Alumni Awards Dinner on Oct. 6. Bonis, a health reporter for WHAM-TV (Channel 13), discussed her career, taking chances and having passion in oneâs pursuits.
